Comparison of Concurrent Aerobic, Resistance and Combination (Aerobic + Resistance) Training on Serum Levels of Leptin, Atherogenic Index of Plasma and Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Obese Inactive Student Girls
Authors
Abstract:
Background and Objectives: Obesity and overweight in addition to cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, greatly effects reproductive health as well. Although the positive effects of exercise on weight control and minimizing cardiovascular risk factors has been proven, the effects may vary depending on the type and intensity of the exercise. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the effect of 6 weeks of aerobic, resistance and combined training on the serum leptin levels and cardiovascular risk factors in inactive obese girls. Materials and Methods: Twenty-eight obese inactive girl volunteers of age between 20-27 years old participated in this study. The subjects were randomly placed into one of four groups (aerobic, resistant, combined and control). Serum levels of leptin, body mass index, body fat percentage, lipid profile and WHR were measured at baseline and after exercise training. Training program lasted for six weeks and it was carried out 3 times per week. Data analysis was performed using one-way analysis at a (P < 0.05). Results: After 6 weeks of exercise training, serum levels of leptin in all three groups decreased significantly compared to the control group (P < 0.001). Also, six weeks of aerobic, resistance and combined training significantly reduced body fat percentage, body mass index, cholesterol and triglycerides (P < 0.001). In comparison between the groups, combined exercises had a more favorable effect on reducing leptin levels and cardiovascular risk factors. Conclusions: Combined exercise appears to be more effective in reducing serum leptin and cardiovascular risk factors in inactive obese girls

Effect of Eight Weeks of Aerobic Aquatic and Land Exercise Training on Leptin, Resistin, and Insulin Resistance in Obese Women
Background: Regular exercise has been shown to improve diabetes-related biological markers. However, for some groups, exercises that require weight bearing are difficult. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to compare the effect of eight weeks of aerobic aquatic and land exercise training on leptin, resistin, and insulin resistance in obese women. Materials and Methods: In the p...
full textEffects of 12 weeks concurrent aerobic and resistance training on serum vaspin and C-reactive protein levels in obese middle-aged men
Introduction: Vaspin is a new adipokine which is a member of serine protease inhibitor family and might improve insulin sensitivity. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of concurrent training (aerobic and resistance) on vaspin, and C-reactive protein levels in middle-aged sedentary obese men. Materials and Methods: 20 sedentary obese men (age: 50.7 ± 2.1 years, the percent of bo...
full textThe Effects of Aerobic Training on Serum Level of Liver Enzymes and Metabolic Syndrome Risk Factors in Young Inactive Women
Abstract Background and Objectives: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is the most common chronic liver disorder and is also currently considered as the hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome. Regular exercise training may decrease fatty liver disease complications, although its impact is not yet clear. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of six...
full textComparison of the effect of 8 weeks of aerobic and resistance training on lipid profile and blood pressure of inactive obese women with hypertension
Background and Objectives: Lack of physical activity is a worrying condition because it leads to major health problems such as obesity, high blood pressure and various metabolic disorders. Exercise is a lifestyle change suggested to reduce atherogenic markers in adults. Increased physical activity and fitness are clearly associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, but the optimal ...

the effect of aerobic training and green tea supplement on serum leptin and insulin resistance in overweight and obese men
the aim of the present study was to examine the effect of aerobic training and green tea supplementation on serum leptin and insulin resistance in overweight and obese men. for this purpose, 43 overweight and obese men were selected voluntarily and were included in four groups: control (body mass index 31.4+3.7, vo2max 39.3+3.8 ml/kg.min), green tea supplement (body mass index, 30.3±2.8 k/m2, v...
